Raise Your Glass To Getting Full Pour

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

The NMI wants to ensure everyone gets fair measure when out and about.

From 20 to 24 October 2025, NMI inspectors will visit up to 350 licensed venues across Australia. They'll check to ensure every pot, schooner, middie, pint, nip, shot and glass poured is correct when sold by measurement. Measuring devices, automated liquor dispensers and trading practices are in their sights to ensure you get what you pay for.

In 2022, a similar audit identified varying degrees of non-compliance at 1 in 4 licensed premises. Many issues were minor and promptly corrected.

This year's checks will ensure pubs, clubs, hotels, sporting clubs, breweries and distilleries are meeting strict measurement standards. Inspectors will check staff training and equipment maintenance to ensure measurement accuracy.

Inspectors will make 'secret shopper' orders to see how licensed premises are serving drinks and using measuring devices. We will revisit sites that didn't meet requirements in the 2022 audit to help make sure they stay on track and follow the rules.

The program is more than just about finding mistakes, it also ensures staff and owners understand the trade measurement laws. By working with businesses, the NMI helps keep things fair for customers and supports venues in doing the right thing.
