Sporting facilities in Stawell and St Arnaud will light up throughout the next few months, with Northern Grampians Shire Council launching its Ready, Set, Glow campaign next week.
The campaign follows the success of last year's Northern Gramps Girls Can initiative, which included lighting up spaces in the early evening to encourage women and girls to be active in safe, inclusive environments.
Mayor Karen Hyslop said following Northern Gramps Girls Can, council chose to extend the lighting campaign to include early mornings and incorporate the whole community.
"The decision to extend the lights followed positive feedback from the community," she said.
"The extended lighting program was also well received, so we decided to run a similar campaign this year."
Ready, Set, Glow will run from Monday, May 4 to Wednesday, September 30.
In Stawell, North Park athletic track, infield and netball courts will be lit up every Monday and Wednesday evening, from 6pm to 7.30pm, with the athletic track and infield also lit up on Wednesday mornings from 6am to 7am.
In St Arnaud, Lord Nelson Park oval will be lit up every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6pm to 7.30pm and Wednesday morning from 6am to 7am.
"With Daylight Saving Time ending, council wants to create more opportunities for residents to be active in safe spaces," Cr Hyslop said.
"We hope having a morning and evening option will cater for families, shift workers and people looking for extra fitness opportunities to complement their winter sporting seasons.
"Ready, Set, Glow is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in the community wanting to be active in a safe and welcoming space."
