Mark Shelton,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

Commissioner of Police, Darren Hine, has been appointed for a further two years to the role following his outstanding leadership, guidance, commitment and advice throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commissioner Hine has more than 40 years of experience in law enforcement and emergency management, including 10 years as the Commissioner of Police.

In addition, as the State Controller, Mr Hine has been responsible for overall coordination of the emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Government recognises the importance of maintaining a stable, trusted leadership as we move into the recovery phase.

COVID-19 has presented Tasmanians with some of the most challenging times we've ever experienced, and we recognise the efforts of all Tasmanians to bring COVID-19 under control and save many lives.

I would like to thank the Commissioner for his dedication to keeping Tasmanians safe, not only during the pandemic but throughout his decades of work in law enforcement and emergency management.
