On ABC radio this morning, Rebecca White was finally forced to confirm that if she is Premier, there will be no Tasmanian AFL team.
Under questioning from ABC Presenter Mel Bush on whether Labor would bin the stadium if elected, Ms White said "we will do everything we could to do that".
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said:
"Ms White has been trying to walk both sides and pretend she still supports our Tasmanian AFL team while opposing the stadium, but this has finally been exposed as the sham it is.
"You cannot have a Tasmanian AFL team without a new stadium - It's as simple as that.
"The AFL have been clear that we need the stadium to ensure our Tasmanian AFL team is viable for the long term.
"Any suggestion we can have a team without a stadium is just fanciful. It will not happen.
"Without the stadium, the team is dead. As are over 4000 jobs, and billions into our economy.
"Ms White must now explain to all Tasmanians, including the many kids who were overjoyed when we were granted our licence, why she will kill off our AFL team, once and for all."
