Sergeant Cross with Commissioner Ian Stewar, Queensland Police sayt

The annual Yvonne King Intelligence Award was awarded to Sergeant Lara Cross last Thursday at the Intelligence Training Unit Graduation Dinner held at Victoria Park Golf Course.

The award recognises dedication and professionalism of an officer in the intelligence field.

This year’s award was presented to Sergeant Lara Cross.

Sergeant Cross has been working in the intelligence field for 15 years, in both specialist and district units.

Sergeant Cross is currently the team leader for an intelligence office that provides intelligence support for diverse clients, including Water Police, Dog Squad, PSRT, PolAir and Railway Squad.

Her knowledge and experience is highly valued, not only as a team leader and intelligence officer, but also by external counterparts, as she has been sought to assist with the delivery of ANZCTC courses.

Superintendent Katherine Innes said Sergeant Cross was a natural leader and a highly competent and effective intelligence officer.

"Sergeant Cross shows great enthusiasm and positivity in all roles she undertakes," Superintendent Innes said.

"Her high work ethic and drive is always displayed to others and for these reasons she is a very worthy recipient of this award."

The award is named after the late Senior Sergeant Yvonne (Eve) King and was established in 2016.

It is presented after intelligence officers complete the Advanced Diploma of Police Intelligence.

The award recognises an officer or staff member from the intelligence field, who in addition to having completed the course possesses a number of qualities including knowledge, ability, professionalism, dedication, motivation, communication and leadership skills, all qualities that made Eve King an exceptional Intelligence Officer.

On December 6 2013, Senior Sergeant King, Officer in Charge, State Intelligence Mt Gravatt, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Senior Sergeant King was a dedicated intelligence officer who always demonstrated the highest standards of professionalism and commitment.

The staff from the Intelligence Training Section honour the memory of Eve with the "Eve King Intelligence Award" to be presented annually to an intelligence officer who has previously completed the Advanced Diploma of Police Intelligence.

Two officers were also presented with awards including the title of MIIC Dux and also the Intelligence Training Award.

Senior Constable Matt Bloomfield of State Intelligence, Inala was announced as the MIIC Dux.

Senior Constable Bloomfield received this award after demonstrating extensive skills and knowledge throughout the two week course.

Senior Constable Nikki Nicholls was awarded the Intelligence Training award for her demonstrated commitment, teamwork, perseverance, knowledge, skills, and improvement during the phases of training.

All nominees for awards represented a broad range of qualities and attributes that are testament to their dedication to the intelligence field within the QPS.
