Reckless wounding charges after pub incident in Newcastle

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting another man with a tumbler in Newcastle overnight, NSW Police say.

About 1.15am (Sunday 25 November 2018), emergency services were called to a licensed premises on Hunter Street, Newcastle, after reports a man was injured.

Police have been told a man – who was not known to them - approached a group of people, and had a conversation, before he allegedly grabbed a plastic tumbler and struck a 28-year-old man to the head.

Security removed the offender from the bar and alerted authorities.

Police from Newcastle City Police District attended and arrested a 21-year-old man.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 13 December 2018.

The victim is undergoing treatment at The Mater Hospital for a laceration to his forehead.
