Nominations are now open for the City of Ryde Mayor's Citizen of the Year Awards 2026, when the outstanding accomplishments by individuals in our community will be recognised and celebrated at a special Australia Day ceremony.
There are four categories:
Citizen of the Year recognises outstanding service to the community over the last five years, and Young Citizen of the Year recognises outstanding service to the community over the last five years by a young person aged 12-25.
Last year we introduced two new categories, and we are pleased to offer them again. Sportsperson of the Year recognises outstanding service to the sporting community over the last five years, while Environmental Citizen of the Year recognises service to the community through environmental and sustainable practices which benefit the community.
City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown said the awards – which will be announced at a ceremony on Monday 26 January 2026 – will be a fantastic beginning to the new year.
"These awards give our community a chance to recognise the achievements of some outstanding individuals and thank them for their service," he said.
"We believe the incredible accomplishments of the people in our community deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated."
The awards are open to all Australian citizens living in the City of Ryde. The Young Citizen of the Year Award is open to Australian citizens between the ages of 12 and 25 years (as at Monday 26 January 2026).
The awards are held under the auspices of the Australia Day Council of NSW and judging is conducted by a local selection panel.
Nominations close on Sunday 9 November 2025. For more details and to find the nomination form click here.
