Record-breaking 1446 Students Receive NTCET Results

Today, 1446 Territory students have received their Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) – the highest number in Territory history.

The record breaking year in Territory education has also seen the highest number of Aboriginal students complete their NTCET, with 221 receiving their certificates.

Darwin High School has the honour of producing this year's top NTCET student. Lachlan Anderson received an ATAR of 99.75 and a university aggregate of 88.60

Lachlan was closely followed by Casuarina Senior College student Joel Park.

The top Aboriginal student was Monique Chong of St Philip's College in Alice Springs.

In another record, this year also marks the highest completion rate in NTCET history, with 73.9 per cent of students enrolled in Year 12 receiving their certificates.

This is the ninth year the NTCET has been awarded.

2019 NTCET highlights

  • The highest number of completers in the history of the NTCET with 1446 Northern Territory students receiving their certificates.
  • 116 students in the Northern Territory have an ATAR in the top 10% in Australia.
  • The number of Aboriginal Year 12 students to complete the NTCET was 221.
  • A total of 47 A+ Merits were obtained by 39 students from eight Territory schools.
  • Six of the top 20 NTCET completers are from Darwin High School, six from The Essington International School Darwin, four from St Philips College in Alice Springs and three from Casuarina Senior College. One was from Centralian Senior School.
  • Kintore Street School in Katherine has seen two students become the first ever to complete their modified NTCET at the school.
  • Dawurr Boarding Facility at Nhulunbuy High School is celebrating its first three NTCET completers.
  • Centralian Senior College, Nhulunbuy High School, O'Loughlin Catholic College, St Philip's College and The Essington International School have had the highest number of students complete their NTCET.

As stated by Minister for Education, Selena Uibo.

"The Territory Labor Government has invested a record $1.16 billion in education this year so the NT can have the most improved education system in the country and this year's record breaking completion rates are testament to the fact that investment is yielding results.

"Congratulations to all 1446 Territory students who completed their NTCET this year and thank you to the many teachers and support staff, family and friends who have worked tirelessly to help our students to receive their best possible results.

"Today is an important milestone in the lives of our young Territorians and, to all of our graduates, whatever your results, remember that today is just the beginning of the next chapter of your lives."
