Record numbers take part in 2019 Melbourne Memory Walk & Jog

A record 2,240 people turned out today for the annual Melbourne Memory Walk & Jog event at Westerfolds Park, Templestowe.

Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe said it was a wonderful event and extended her thanks to everyone who participated, raised funds or donated.

"We are thrilled with the fantastic turn out and enormous levels of support and community spirit demonstrated at today's Memory Walk & Jog event," Ms McCabe said.

"It was inspiring to see more than 2,240 people out walking and running in support of people with dementia, which is a record figure for Melbourne Memory Walk & Jog event attendance."

Ms McCabe also acknowledged everyone who volunteered at the event.

"I would like to thank our MC Takaya Honda for generously giving up this time to host the event, along with the local Melbourne community and our many volunteers for ensuring the event ran safely and smoothly," Ms McCabe said.

"It simply would not have been possible to host this Memory Walk & Jog event without their support.

"I would also like to thank those who raised funds and those who donated to such a great cause. It is wonderful to see so many people support us in this way and we are very grateful for their generosity."

The event saw attendees take part in either a 5km or 10km and walk, jog or run, raising more than $260,000 to support the work of Dementia Australia, which provides invaluable support, education and resources for people living with dementia in Australia, their carers, families and friends.

For those who missed out, there is still time to show your support by making a donation at www.memorywalk.com.au
