Record visitor spending continues to boost economy

Will Hodgman,Premier

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events

The latest Tasmanian Visitor Survey numbers show our plan to get our visitors seeing more of the state and spending more while they are here is working.

We have reached record expenditure, with tourists spending $2.53 billion, which is up 5 per cent.

Visitation to the state in the September quarter is the highest ever recorded at 1.32 million, with interstate holiday visitors increasing by 14 per cent to 79,700 for that period, and visitor expenditure during that quarter up 9 per cent.

The sustained success of our visitor economy in recent years has been unparalleled, with $3.2 billion injected into our economy each year, supporting 42,800 Tasmanian jobs directly and indirectly.

Our tourism operators are the best in the country, and continue to deliver high quality experiences and service to our visitors.

My Government remains the strongest supporter of tourism and is committed to future boosting visitation in regional areas so even more Tasmanians benefit from our prosperous economy.
