Recycling contingency plan will be activated if needed

- City of Ballarat Director of Infrastructure and Environment Terry Demeo

The City of Ballarat has been planning for this eventuality and has a contingency plan in place which will be enacted when we have a clearer understanding of the specific implications of the recent news in respect to one of the entities which forms the SKM Group.

The contingency plan, if implemented, will see minimal stockpiling required.

Obviously the City of Ballarat manages its own kerbside collection. SKM has not received bulk loads of Ballarat recycling for 10 days.

Our contractual obligations with SKM end at the end of this calendar year and the City of Ballarat will be pursuing a further tender process in the immediate future.

We are waiting on formal advice in relation to the intentions of SKM given the announcement relates to only one of the entities under this group.

We would ask residents to continue to recycle as usual and make sure recycling is properly cleaned and sorted.
