Recycling statement by Acting Mayor Louise Crawford

In good news for our community, Port Phillip Council has avoided sending recyclables to landfill today.

Residents can continue to put out their recycling bins as normal as the contents will be sent to SKM Services' Coolaroo plant for processing.

This follows the EPA banning SKM's Laverton North plant, normally used by Council, from taking recyclables from 1 pm yesterday. SKM will be allowed to again accept deliveries when the EPA deems outdoor stockpiles are no longer a potential fire risk at that plant.

SKM hopes to start re-accepting recyclables at Laverton North on Monday. If this is not possible, Council's recyclables will continue to be sent to the Coolaroo plant until Laverton North can resume processing.
