Red Cross responds to NT flooding

An Australian Red Cross team has been activated to assist those who have been evacuated from Jilkminggan, southeast of Katherine, due to flooding.

The team will assist 250 members of the community that arrived in the nearby town of Mataranka last night, including through the provision of psychological first aid.

"Our emergency teams are experts in their field - employees and volunteers alike," said Red Cross NT Director, Andrew Kenyon.

"Our staff and volunteers will provide psychological first aid, personal support and information.

"We are working together with local authorities, agencies and communities to provide this initial support."
