Red-y to shine: Logan River Red Bridge unveiled in full

This is an image of the newly repainted Red Bridge that spans the Logan River.

It's a red letter day for the City of Logan with $3.9 million of works to repair and refresh the landmark Red Bridge now complete.

The bridge, across the Logan River at Beenleigh, has had a major facelift in recent months.

Works to strengthen and protect the structure have been done along with a fresh lick of paint.

The final scaffolding was removed this week to reveal the bridge's new shining Waratah Red colour in full.

The bridge has been a feature of Logan's skyline since opening as a tollway over the Logan River in 1931.

Logan City Council Roads and Water Acting Director Daryl Ross said the bridge's rejuvenation ensured its long-term future.

The age and design of the structure meant works were a challenge.

"Complex suspension scaffolding enabled the bridge to be thoroughly inspected and allowed works to progress while keeping workers, the public and the environment safe," Mr Ross said.

"We are proud that throughout the project, the bridge remained open to pedestrian traffic."

The project included significant repairs to concrete and reinforcing steel as well as a full sand blast and re-paint of the structural steelwork. Works were also performed on the bridge's bearings and expansion joints.

A final coating applied to the bridge's concrete surfaces will help protect them into the future.

The Red Bridge is an important and recognisable piece of Logan's history.

Council's investment in this project will see it continue serving as both an active transport link and icon of the city.
