Reducing congestion between Hobart and Sorell

The Hodgman Liberal Government is reducing congestion and travel time between Hobart and Sorell by delivering a range of projects over the next six years under the South East Traffic Solution.

The first of these projects is beginning on Monday 22nd October with the first phase of improvements to the Hobart Airport Roundabout. These works will improve traffic flow to ease the daily bottleneck at this important junction.

Additionally, a new planning study is now open for community consultation that will inform future projects and allow motorists to spend less time stuck in traffic and more time doing things they enjoy.

This planning study will help shape the current project and others between the airport roundabout and Hobart, as well as options for active and passenger transport, such as bikes and buses between Hobart and Sorell.

The study will help to highlight any safety concerns, identify future areas for improvement and ascertain exactly how and where changes could be made to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion along this important stretch.

The Department of State Growth will hold drop-in information sessions at Cambridge, Sorell and Hobart throughout October which are as follows:

  • Monday, 22 October between 3:30pm and 5:30pm at Sorell Memorial Hall (CWA Room), Cole Street, Sorell.
  • Wednesday, 24 October between 12:00pm and 2:00pm at Department of State Growth offices (putalina room), 4 Salamanca Place, Hobart.
