Registrations are now open for Mildura Sporting Precinct's first ever social sporting competition.

Open to people of all ages, RecFooty is a fun, easy-to-play, 9-a-side, AFL competition based on the hugely popular AFL9's social format.

It will be played under lights on the Mildura Sporting Precinct's Premier Oval every Wednesday and Friday, kicking off from 7pm on Wednesday 16 February 2022.

The RecFooty Social Competition will be initially split into two leagues, and will be played over a six-week period.

An Over 35s league will play on Wednesdays, while a Mixed Open competition will run on Fridays. Cost is $60 per player.

Mildura Sporting Precinct Manager Don Harley encouraged social groups, workplaces and people of all ages to consider signing up for the inaugural RecFooty season.

"Sport is very much part of the fabric of our community, and people love being able to play social sport alongside their friends, family or colleagues," he said.

"RecFooty is the first of a number of social competitions we will be running at the Precinct over the next 12 months, with the aim to help people get active, socialise and enjoy everything the facility has to offer.

"Don't miss this opportunity to get some mates together and sign up for what is shaping up to be a great inaugural season."

How does RecFooty work?

RecFooty games will run for two, 20-minute halves, and will be played on a shortened field.

Teams are split into three zones – forwards, backs and midfielders. Each team's three forwards will wear identifying wristbands, and will be the only players who can score.

Boys' goals are worth six points, while girls' goals are worth nine points.

The game is non-contact, with a dropped ball resulting in a turnover. If a player holding the ball is touched by an opposition player, they must dispose of the ball immediately or it will be deemed a turnover.

While there are only nine players allowed on the field from each team at once, teams are welcome to have plenty of friends, family or colleagues on the bench ready for rotation.

Registrations are open right up until opening night, and can be made online at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/RecFooty or by contacting 03 5055 5101.
