The 11 November marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I. Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions around the world pause in silence to remember the sacrifices many have made so we can enjoy life today.

In a moving tribute, the Opera House will also be lit up again with poppies, the formal symbol of Remembrance Day which commemorates the end of World War I.

Paul Graham OAM, from Eastlakes, was the president of the Mascot RSL Sub-Branch and in 2015 he started a campaign and lobbied the NSW Government to have the Opera House Sails lit up with poppies on Remembrance Day. It first happened in 2016 and has since become an annual event.
