Rescue of Walker, TAS

A police and SES ground search and rescue party located a man at 3am this morning at Meander Valley Falls after he was missing for 12 hours, Tasmania Police say.

At 11.15am the couple left their vehicle in the Meander Valley Falls car park to go for a walk. The walk was expected to take about 2.5hours to complete. The woman returned to their car a short time later, after the pair agreed to meet up at 2pm. She became concerned about her partner when he failed to show up at the agreed time.

Police were contacted at 3.30pm yesterday and activated a Search and Rescue with personnel and SES volunteers, who conducted searches of the tracks in the area.

The man was located at 3am near a creek and was able to walk out with rescuers.

After becoming lost the man had found a creek but with darkness falling he had decided to stay and wait until morning.  Conditions overnight were cold however the man was in good health.

Tasmania Police wish to recognise the invaluable support provided by the SES volunteers.
