Tasmanians are encouraged to comment on a proposal to reserve part of the Crown Land Future Potential Production Forest Land, within the boundary of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
The Tasmanian Government is committed to reserving this land, which is identified as a requirement in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area (TWWHA) Management Plan. The areas proposed to be reserved are all within the existing TWWHA boundary and the size of the TWWHA will not change.
The intention is to reserve approximately 25,000 hectares of Future Potential Production Forest Land as either Conservation Areas or Regional Reserves, in line with the reserve classifications prescribed in Schedule 1 of the Nature Conservation Act 2002.
Public comment is open for a period of eight weeks until 1 April 2021 and submissions are invited on the proposed reserve classes.
Once all comments have been received and considered, draft proclamations will be tabled in both Houses of Parliament to reserve the land for consideration and approval.
