Resources Regulator To Inspect Western Quarries

Resources Victoria will be out in force this month inspecting quarries throughout Victoria's west.

The inspections scheduled across 15 and 16 October will focus on sites in the Glenelg, Moyne, and Southern Grampians regions. The visits are part of a program designed to strengthen risk management, involving inspections at every mine and quarry across the state.

Inspections will focus on how operators are actively managing risks. They will also ensure that operators are abiding by approved extraction limits and that site rehabilitation obligations are up to date.

Information gathered will inform future audits and inspections.

Quarry operators are required to understand and implement the commitments in their work plan.

Inspections conducted during the first half of 2025 identified a number of sites with inadequate fuel management, poor waste storage and a lack of boundary markers.

Operators should be aware of their boundaries and extraction limits, as well as their obligations to manage dust and noise. During the inspections operators will be reminded of their responsibilities and commitments.

Understanding and complying with extraction limits and meeting rehabilitation commitments are crucial elements to operating a quarry. Operators will be required to address any areas that do not meet the site's Work Plan standards.
