The Australian Government is providing $750,000 to support native wildlife and plants along the Sturt River in Adelaide.
Led by the City of Mitcham, the project will:
- remove invasive weeds
- plant native vegetation
- stabilise sections of the riverbank vulnerable to erosion.
The Sturt River is an important urban waterway in Adelaide's southern suburbs. It provides habitat for native animals and plants and is part of the area's stormwater catchment.
The project will improve habitat for native species and water quality, and create healthier, more resilient natural areas along the river.
It will also enhance the community's access to the river corridor and help protect green spaces for people to enjoy.
The funding is provided through the Australian Government's Local Environmental Projects Program. The program supports local projects that protect and improve the environment.
