Restrictions ease Statewide Tuesday

After consultation with Queensland Health regarding community cases in South East Queensland, visits have been reinstated to our prisons.

This means that personal visits will be able to booked as normal. Virtual personal visits are also available.

Please contact the relevant correctional centre for details of current visitor numbers permitted under COVID-Safe plans, and to book contact, non-contact and virtual visits.

Anyone entering a correctional centre will continue to undergo health screening and temperature checks. For the safety of our officers and the prisoners in our care, please do not come for a visit if you are unwell or showing any COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are minor (please self-isolate and get tested immediately).

If you have been in a COVID-19 hotspot in the past two weeks, please do not attend a centre.

Where social distancing is not possible, in accordance with current Queensland Health advice, masks are recommended at all centres.

We acknowledge the impact of cancellation of visits on prisoners and their families, and we appreciate your patience.

All prisoners in Queensland prison have been offered COVID-19 vaccinations, with very high uptake.

As at 31 August 2021 Queensland Health has administered 7,819 COVID-19 vaccine doses to prisoners across the 14 prisons in the State.

Of these 14 prisons, eight have completed the initial phase of the vaccination program (offering two doses for existing prisoners) and have moved to offering vaccinations to new receptions and any existing prisoners who initially chose not to be vaccinated.

The remaining prisons are scheduled to move to a maintenance phase over the next few months.

We encourage family members to get vaccinated as soon as they can if they haven't already done so, as vaccinations will play an important role in keeping our centres COVID-free and preventing future lockdowns.
