Return to custody of Inmate from Nova Institution for Women

On the afternoon of February 24, 2020, Laura Jane Stanley-Smith was located by the Saint John Police Detachment and returned to custody.

This offender had failed to return to a Community-Based Residential Facility in Truro, on February 21, 2020, while on unescorted temporary absence (UTA) from a minimum-security unit of a federal institution.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
