More than 100 residents attended Council's first Reuse and Repair Day at Eastlakes Community Hall on Saturday 12 September.
The event was a great success, with attendees bringing approximately 100 kilograms of household items and clothing for repair. Through the Joy of Giving toy swap, 75 kilograms of toys and reusable items were rehomed, while approximately 550 items found a second life through the toy and clothing swap.
The Bower's skilled repairers were on hand throughout the day, helping to restore a range of unusual and everyday items. Some of the items repaired included a lawn mower, shredder, headphones, blow dryer, blender and even a dog bed.
The event was held in support of Oxfam's Secondhand September campaign, which encourages people to extend the life of everyday items through repairing, reusing and swapping, rather than sending them to landfill.
The strong community response demonstrates Bayside's commitment to reducing waste and embracing more sustainable ways of living.
By giving unwanted items a second chance, residents helped divert valuable resources from landfill while supporting a more circular and environmentally responsible community.
