Right Hand Turn Arrows On Terry Street In Blakehurst Get Green Light

NSW Gov

The Minns Labor Government is delivering long-awaited safety and traffic flow improvements for the community, with work to start shortly on upgrades to the traffic lights at the Terry Street intersection with King Georges Road.

This project will deliver dedicated right-hand turn arrows for vehicles turning from Terry Street into King Georges Road, improving safety and easing congestion at this busy local intersection.

The work also includes extending the existing right turn lanes on Terry Street, as well as installing new lighting and improving existing lighting on the northern side of the intersection to make it safer for pedestrians.

The upgrade to the traffic lights is expected to be completed before Christmas, with the extended turn lanes and lighting upgrades scheduled for completion by mid-2026.

The crucial upgrade comes after years of calls from the community, council and other stakeholders for improvements to this intersection over many years.

The latest improvements will utilise smart traffic light technology and follow previous upgrades completed in 2013 and 2019.

Premier and Member for Kogarah, Chris Minns said:

"For decades, the community has been calling for this upgrade, and it's a Labor Government that's finally getting it done. These changes will make a real difference for motorists, pedestrians, and families who use this intersection every day.

"The former Liberal Government ignored these calls for far too long. Our government is making sure the priorities of local communities like ours come first."

Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison said:

"The Minns Labor Government is getting on with delivering what matters to local communities. These upgrades will make this intersection safer and more efficient for everyone who uses it.

"We're using smart traffic technology and better lighting to ensure this intersection works better for the thousands of motorists that use it daily."
