Riverina Firms Urged to Tap Southeast Asia Markets

NSW Gov

The Minns Labor Government is inviting businesses across the Riverina to the next ASEAN Market Update on Tuesday 30 September in Wagga Wagga to learn about the trends and export opportunities across Southeast Asia.

Southeast Asia is projected to become the world's fourth-largest economy by 2040, driven by rising incomes, urbanisation and digital adoption, presenting significant growth opportunities for NSW's exporting businesses.

Hosted by the Minister for Industry and Trade and facilitated by market exports from Investment NSW, the session at Charles Sturt University will provide valuable insights on how NSW businesses can capitalise on the Southeast Asian market to expand and diversify their exports.

Attendees will hear from exporting experts and firsthand from local businesses that have practical advice from successfully expanding into the region, including Flavourtech and Murray Cod.

Supporting more businesses to grow and export into new markets is a key priority of the NSW Trade and Investment Strategy 2035.

This is the fourth event in the ASEAN Market Update series, following previous sessions which attracted around 100 attendees altogether in Western Sydney, Wollongong and the Northern Rivers.

Minister for Industry and Trade Anoulack Chanthivong said:

"With two-way trade between NSW and ASEAN doubling over the past decade, the potential for further growth is immense and the Riverina is the driver's seat.

"The growing middle class in Southeast Asia is increasingly seeking higher-value products and services, including healthcare, education, financial technology, and premium food and beverages.

"We want to equip NSW businesses, including from the Riverina, with the practical advice they need, to capitalise on export opportunities to this important region, and that's what our ASEAN Market Update series is all about.

"I encourage businesses across the Riverina, no matter where they're at on their exporting journey, to attend."

Independent Member for Wagga Wagga Dr Joe McGirr said:

"I welcome the NSW Government's move to bring its ASEAN Market Update series to the Riverina - this is a valuable opportunity for our local businesses to hear insights and learn about export opportunities to Southeast Asia.

"NSW, with its high-quality products and strategic geographic position, is well-equipped to capitalise on this growth.

"I encourage businesses across the Riverina, whether they're new to exporting or experienced traders, to come along, listen and network with the experts in the room, and get a full understanding of the great opportunities that come with doing business in Southeast Asia."
