Riverina Traffic Stop Yields 70kg Drugs, Two Charged

Two people have been charged with commercial drug supply offences, after police seized more than 70kg of cannabis during a traffic stop in the Riverina yesterday.

About 10.10am yesterday (Thursday 21 August 2025), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Riverina stopped a vehicle for the purpose of a random breath test.

Police searched the vehicle with Victorian number plates, seizing close to 74kg of cannabis in the boot, covered in a tarp. Their mobile phones were also seized for forensic examination.

The 50-year-old male driver and 48-year-old female passenger were arrested and taken to Cootamundra Police Station and both charged with supply prohibited drug > =commercial quantity.

They were refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 5 today (Friday 22 August 2025).
