Road closure/traffic incident - Bass Highway Hagley

The Bass Highway near Hagley was closed for about 2 hours this afternoon after a 68 year old male suffered what initial investigations suggest was a medical emergency.

The vehicle that the male was driving subsequently collided with safety rails before crossing the road and coming to rest on railway tracks adjacent to the1roadway.

An off duty member of the Tasmania Fire Service provided assistance until the arrival of Ambulance Tasmania, but the male could not be revived and died at the scene.

Tasmania Police closed the road for 2 hours whilst Crash Investigation Services attended and conducted a scene examination.

Further investigations will be conducted to confirm the cause of the incident.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident but a TASRAIL train had to be held at Westbury while the rail tracks were cleared and checked.

Tasmania Police are seeking any witnesses to the incident.
