Road closures for the 2018 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final at Southport, QLD

Gold Coast police would like to remind motorists of upcoming road closures due to the 2018 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final at Southport, Queensland Police say.

The event will be held over five days, from Wednesday September 12 to Sunday September 16, with more than 5000 athletes and spectators expected to attend this year’s event.

Police have been working with event organisers and stakeholders to ensure the event is conducted safely and with minimum disruption to traffic.

Motorists are advised that travelling anywhere near the Southport Broadwater Parklands during this event may results in delays due to the diversions that will be in place.

Major Events Group Senior Sergeant Des Hearn said: "Motorists are advised that they need to plan their journey and allow extra time if travelling in the affected locations.

Please expect delays and traffic congestion at the following Southport road and waterway closures:

Thursday, September 13
– The Gold Coast Highway, between North Street and Marine Parade (including Frank Street), from 7.00am to 3.30pm.
– Marine Parade, between the Gold Coast Highway and Bayview Street, from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
– Bayview Street, between Marine Parade and Falkinder Avenue, 9.00am to 3.00pm.

Friday, September 14
– The Gold Coast Highway, between North Street and Broad Street, from 6.00am to 4.30pm.
– Marine Parade, between the Gold Coast Highway and Broad Street, from 6.00am to 4.30pm.

Saturday, September 15
– The Gold Coast Highway, between North Street and Broad Street, from 3.00am to 7.00pm.
– Marine Parade, between the Gold Coast Highway and Broad Street, from 3.00am to 7.00pm.

Sunday, September 16
– The Gold Coast Highway, between North Street and Marine Parade (including Frank Street), from 7.00am to 3.30pm.
– Marine Parade, between the Gold Coast Highway and Bayview Street, from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
– Bayview Street, between Marine Parade and Falkinder Avenue, 9.00am to 3.00pm.
– The Western Channel of the Gold Coast Broadwater, between Fisherman’s Park and Imperial Parade, from 6.00am to 10.00am.
