Road Naming Proposal In Carlton North

Yarra City Council

Council is seeking to assign a name to the laneway in-between 166 Fenwick street – 743 Drummond street Carlton North (see map overleaf). Council has consulted with the Wurundjeri community and is proposing the name "Bagunnga Lane".

Bagunnga is a word meaning 'gather together' in the language of the Wurundjeri people. Council is committed to recognising the past and ongoing custodianship of land in the municipality by the Wurundjeri people and this policy gives primacy to the recognition of places through the use of names in the Woi wurrung language.

In considering this naming proposal, Council has been be guided by its own policy and the State Government's Guidelines for Geographic Names. If you have any feedback on this proposed name for the laneway, please let us know.
