An Alice Springs police officer has been selected as a Road Safety Champion for his efforts and dedication in reducing road related trauma in the Northern Territory.
Sergeant Conan Robertson of the Southern Traffic Operations Unit was announced as the Road Safety Champion by Assistant Commissioner of Regional Operations, Narelle Beer today, Northern Territory Police say.
The face, and often voice of traffic enforcement, education and road safety for the Southern region, Sgt Robertson was selected to represent the Northern Territory Police and Motor Accident Compensation Commission (MACC) when attending the 49th America Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Annual Convention and Traffic Expo in Florida next year.
This trip will provide an opportunity to showcase the work done by both NT Police and the Motor Accident Compensation Commission, who facilitated the supply of car seats donated to parents in remote communities. Community Safety Police Officers worked closely in educating parents and children as to the important use of car seats as part of the KidSafe NT project.
The KidSafe NT project was recognised through a National Road Safety Award and awarded with an all-expenses paid trip to the USA to attend the ATSSA Annual Conference and Traffic Expo to present the winning entry.
The convention and expo will showcase road safety initiatives and equipment in America, followed by a tour of the 3M Global Headquarters in Minnesota.
Assistant Commissioner Narelle Beer said Sgt Robertson’s efforts to reduce road related trauma and educate motorists on road safety, was admirable.

"In the 11 years with the Southern Traffic Operations Unit, Sgt Robertson has gained considerable operational and traffic experience, which he shares with his colleagues, and continues to have the drive and determination required around road safety, education and policing.
