Road safety - Excessive Speed in Darwin

Northern Territory Police are calling on motorists to take more responsibility for their driving following the apprehension of a speeding vehicle yesterday.

At around 1:15pm, police pulled over a black Audi Q7 after the driver was allegedly caught travelling at speeds of 184km/hr in a 100km/zone, before running a red light.

The 33-year-old driver was issued with a notice to appear.

Superintendent Daniel Shean said, "Police believe that the vehicle had an earlier interaction with another driver and is investigating the linkages."

"Luckily on this occasion, the speeding did not result in a crash or worse, another fatality. As we draw closer to Christmas, the last thing we need is another death on the road."

"The public can expect to see police engaged in road safety campaigns this festive season to reduce the likelihood of trauma on our roads."

Anyone who saw these two vehicles speeding on Tiger Brennan Drive or has dash camera footage of the other vehicle which is described as a dark coloured sedan, please contact police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and quote 9503649.
