Wagga Wagga City Council advises residents and motorists to expect disruptions to traffic on the southern end of Docker Street as it undertakes essential civil works, which will begin from Monday 20 October 2025.
Planned disruptions will begin with kerb and gutter replacement works on Docker Street – between Chaston Street and Edward Street – as well as a section of Dwyer Avenue, from Monday 20 October to Friday 24 October 2025.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in either direction, with a speed restriction of 40km/h across the full length of the work zone between 6am and 6pm.
Following the Stage1 kerb and gutter works, Council will commence road rehabilitation works on Bourke and Docker Streets between Athol Street and Meurant Avenue, from Sunday 26 October to Friday 31 October 2025, weather permitting.
This rehabilitation work is taking place to improve the road ahead of the expected increase in traffic when the Edmondson Street Bridge is closed for the Inland Rail project.
Director Infrastructure Services Henry Pavitt says the stretch of Bourke and Docker Streets and the intersections within the work zone will be closed to through traffic at various times during the Stage 2 works.
"The majority of this will be carried out as night works, between 6pm and 6am, with the exception of Monday 27 October, which will be from 2pm to 9pm to align with the time provided by the ARTC when no trains will be passing through, so work can be completed safely," Mr Pavitt said.
"We are encouraging road users to plan ahead and avoid the area during the scheduled rehabilitation times.
"We know Docker Street is a key thoroughfare for north and south bound traffic and understand the closure on the Monday (27 October) will cause significant disruptions for the community during after school pick up times and after work.
"However, it is important we get this rehabilitation work completed as soon as possible, so it's ready to carry the increase in traffic that is expected to use Docker Street when the Edmondson Street Bridge is closed."

Traffic control and detours will be in place while these essential works are carried out. Details and updates will be published on Live Traffic NSW.
The Edmondson Street bridge replacement is part of the Inland Rail upgrade project that is being managed and delivered by both Inland Rail and its delivery contractor Martinus.
A two-week trial closure of the bridge by Inland Rail will start on Saturday November 22, before a commitment is made on the 18-month closure to carry out the project.
Wagga Wagga City Council continues to work closely with Inland Rail and Transport for NSW on mitigation options to manage the impacts of the closure of the Edmondson Street bridge during these upgrade works.
