Robbery with violence at Kuranda, QLD

Police are investigating after a woman was assaulted and robbed at Kuranda this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

The 47-year-old woman was walking along the Kennedy Highway around 4pm when she turned onto a trail towards Rotary Park.

A man approached the woman and after a brief discussion she turned to walk back towards the road.

The man followed her and pushed her to the ground before punching her a number of times in the face and grabbing her handbag.

He then fled the scene towards the Kuranda markets while the woman flagged down a passing motorist to assist.

She sustained bruising as a result of the incident.

The man is described as Aboriginal in appearance with a dark complexion, between 165-170cm tall, around 20-years-old with a slim build and thick curly black hair in a distinctive bowl cut.

He was wearing a plain white t-shirt with dark coloured shorts or pants.
