Inquiries continue into the death of a rock fisherman near Newcastle, NSW Police say.
About 2.40pm today, a 70-year-old rock fisherman was walking on rocks at the northern end of Bar Beach when he was knocked into the sea by a wave.
The man did not resurface and a witness contacted emergency services.
Life guards removed the man from the water however he could not be revived.
Police from Newcastle City LAC and Newcastle Water Police attended and are investigating the incident.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
