The Queensland Police Service (QPS) was proud to lead a March in recognition and awareness of domestic and family violence victims today, May 22.
This event saw QPS members, including police officers, and staff, coming together to show their support for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Capricornia District Officer, Superintended Mark Burgess, led the march from the red bench at the Rockhampton Regional Council Library along Bolsover Street, to the red bench located at the corner of the Rockhampton Police Complex.
Superintendent Burgess emphasised the importance behind this event and praised attendees for their support.
"This march represents a critical issue across Queensland, which affects the lives of individuals, families, and communities," Superintendent Burgess said.
"Domestic violence is still one of the most significant challenges faced by the Queensland Police Service.
"Our officers are committed to supporting victim-survivors and holding offenders accountable for their actions."
Today's march was the first dedicated march led by the Queensland Police Service in Rockhampton to recognise victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
Superintendent Mark Burgess also encouraged those in attendance to speak up if they see or hear of domestic and family violence in their community.
"Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home, and to live a life free from the fear of domestic and family violence," said Superintendent Burgess.
"Help is available, and reporting DFV can save lives. We take every report of DFV seriously."
"Every life lost to DFV is a tragedy, and we must work together as a community to end domestic and family violence, and together, help prevent any further loss of life."
"I am incredibly proud of the work of our Domestic and Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Units throughout the Capricornia District, and the support we have been able to provide to victim-survivors in our community."
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic and family violence, you should report it to police.
