Rockhampton Regional Libraries members will now get important updates straight to their phones thanks to a new SMS notification system.

The new system will text library members when items are ready to collect, holds are expiring, or loans are due or overdue.

Deputy Mayor and Communities, Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said the new feature was a simple but important way to help members stay on top of their library loans.

"Libraries are all about connecting people with information, and this new SMS system is another way we're making that connection quicker and easier," Cr Wickerson said.

"Members will now receive a text message when items they've requested are ready to collect, giving them a timely reminder so they don't miss out before their hold expires.

"People will also receive reminders when their items are due soon, and if they have something overdue, helping them renew or return their loans before they run out of time.

"Whether it's books, magazines, jigsaws, audiobooks or DVDs, this system keeps members informed about the items they've borrowed."

Cr Wickerson said the new system was an exciting step forward for Rockhampton Regional Libraries and an example of how services continue to evolve to meet community needs.

"This is an immediate and convenient way for us to share important updates directly with our members," Cr Wickerson said.

"It's another step forward in making our library service as accessible and user-friendly as possible.

"Our libraries already offer an incredible range of resources, programs and spaces for the community to enjoy, and this new feature helps ensure members can make the most of everything available.

"If you're not already a member, now is the perfect time to join for free and discover what Rockhampton Regional Libraries have to offer."
