An algal bloom in Cleveland Bay has forced the closure of the Rockpool on The Strand this afternoon.
The Rockpool will reopen when water quality in the bay improves and the pool can be safely refilled.
Council is monitoring the situation and is undertaking water quality testing.
Signage has been installed at the Rockpool to advise people of the closure. Lifeguards will also inform visitors.
