Rollover - Central Desert

Northern Territory Police have praised the efforts of passers-by in responding to a rollover on the Mereenie Loop Road west of Ntaria yesterday afternoon.

Around 3pm, a woman driving a Nissan X-trail lost control of the vehicle and rolled several times. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Four passers-by stopped to render assistance.

Superintendent Brett Prowse said, "It was very fortunate for the driver that two of the people who stopped happened to be a trauma medic and a nurse visiting from interstate. They provided excellent first aid and were able to assist the woman from the vehicle."

Staff from the Areyonga Clinic attended and with police assistance the injured woman was transported to Ntaria Clinic. She was later transferred to Alice Springs Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Investigations are continuing but police advise there is no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved.
