Swan Hill Rural City Council is about to commence construction of eight houses in Ronald Street, Robinvale.
Mayor Bill Moar said it was another positive step forward, in a bid to help alleviate housing shortages.
"We all know that Robinvale is facing a housing crisis. There are no homes for workers - itinerant farm workers, skilled farm workers and managers, and professionals like doctors and accountants. This is putting pressure on everyone in Robinvale," Cr Moar said.
"Council believes that developing this land is one way that we can provide some new housing in Robinvale.
"This project is expected to not only provide new houses for Robinvale workers, but will stimulate the local economy and encourage others to develop too," he said.
Council's Director Corporate Services Joel Lieschke said the construction tender had recently been awarded to GJ Gardiner Mildura and works were set to commence towards the end of April.
The Ronald Street Development, includes a $500,000 State Government contribution from the Crises Committee of Cabinet Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.
