Rockhampton Regional Council is excited to see Roseberry Queensland (RQ) getting young people involved in the arts through the RQ Youth Art Awards.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Council is proud to support Roseberry Queensland through its Community Assistance program and see competitions and opportunities like these art awards offered to the community.

"The Community Assistance Program is about supporting local groups, events, and initiatives which benefit our community, and this organisation does just that," Cr Wickerson said.

"Roseberry Queensland is a community-based organisation providing a range of services to meet the identified needs of young people and families who are experiencing difficulty.

"They are currently holding a Youth Art Competition for people aged 12-25years to enter a 2D piece of art piece that represents what 'home' means to them.

"This is a great initiative and wonderful way for young people to showcase their artwork.

"The top 30 shortlisted pieces will be selected by judges and prepared to be exhibited at the Rockhampton Southside Library from 15th June - 15th July.

"If you have an artistic flare, I encourage you to get involved and submit your artwork."

Roseberry Qld General Manager, Michelle Coats, said the aim of this arts competition is to encourage young people to get actively involved in the arts.

"This event encourages artistic expression and social interaction among young people." Ms Coats said.

"Given the unprecedented times in the past years with COVID, social isolation and cost of living rising, we wanted our young people to consider the importance of home and what it means to them.

"I encourage all those who have an artistic side to get involved in this event – art is a wonderful channel to express yourself and interact with others."
