Today South Australia Police (SAPOL) launched the landmark 'Go for PSO' campaign, showcasing the diverse and meaningful career opportunities available as a police security officer (PSO).
The campaign features PSOs across the different sections of the Police Security Services Branch and aims to aid in SAPOL's efforts to recruit more than 100 PSOs in the next 12 months.
Acting Executive Director Stephen Howard said the new campaign reflects the breadth of opportunity the PSO role offers.
"Police security officers are essential to the safety of our state. No two days are the same, and the role offers purpose, stability and the chance to make a real difference in the community," Chief Superintendent Howard said.
The campaign highlights the variety of workplaces you'll find PSOs -- from government buildings to community spaces, schools, and major public events.
"It features dynamic scenes across outdoor patrols, CCTV monitoring, training environments, and community interactions.
"The GO for PSO campaign celebrates the vital role PSOs play in keeping South Australia's communities safe."
New PSO graduate Joshua Hughes featured in the campaign and joined SAPOL after participating in the 'Discover SAPOL' work experience program.
"For me, the highlight of my first year has been the skills I've learnt in this job. Coming from school straight into the Academy was an eye opener," PSO Hughes said.
"I've met some really supportive people and learnt great transferable life skills such as being able to de-escalate situations, and I've become more confident speaking to members of the public."
The campaign highlights several key benefits of becoming a PSO, including:
- Paid training at SAPOL's Academy
- A secure and varied career with opportunities to work across multiple environments
- Teamwork and community connection
- The chance to gain lifelong skills and confidence
The creative rollout includes a 30 and 15 second TVC, radio, digital, outdoor, and social executions. Using the strong, simple call to action "GO", the campaign encourages people to take the first step toward a secure and rewarding career.
From patrolling the Botanic Gardens at dusk to supporting high security buildings, monitoring CCTV networks, and working with the public, the campaign showcases the everyday impact PSOs make.
"We want people who are ready to step up, try something different and join a team that really matters," Chief Superintendent Howard said.
"If you're looking for a role where you can grow, be challenged and contribute to community safety, what are you waiting for? GO for PSO."
