SA Seniors Roar Past Vics To Snare Fuel Discounts

SA Gov

South Australian Seniors have left their Victorian counterparts in their dust to score cost-of-living relief through a new fuel discount scheme.

In just over three weeks, almost 24,000 South Australian Seniors Card members have accelerated their savings and signed up for a fuel discount card with United Petroleum, receiving four cents per litre off fuel at participating United service stations across the country, including 24 metropolitan SA locations and six regional SA sites.

South Australia has overtaken Victoria – which has just over 23,000 registrations - despite the Vics having three times as many Seniors Card members.

South Australian Seniors Card members can access the savings by registering and using a digital or physical fuel discount card when paying for their fuel. If seniors choose a digital card, it can be used straight away while a plastic fuel discount card can be delivered to them.

The partnership with Australian-owned business United Petroleum has also resulted in a dramatic increase in new Seniors Card applications, as well as a significant jump in operational activity within the Seniors Card Unit.

In the week following the official launch of the 2024 Seniors Card Discounts & Deals Directory, which includes the new fuel offer, there was a 126 per cent increase in new applications, with close to 2,000 more people signing up to become a Seniors Card member.

There was also a huge increase in phone calls and emails from members and a whopping 173 per cent increase in members using online services, with a 97 per cent increase in people jumping online to request a replacement card.

The 2024 Seniors Card Discounts & Deals Directory offers hundreds of great offers and discounts on everything from travel, home and garden, clothing, fitness, education, retail, recreational activities and more.

South Australia's 415,000 Seniors Card members can pick up a copy of the guide from one of hundreds of collection points across South Australia, including local councils, libraries and MP offices.

Discounts and offers can also be accessed on the Seniors Card Discounts & Deals website, which is updated throughout the year as new discounts are added.

Permanent South Australian residents aged over 60 and working less than 20 hours per week in paid employment are eligible to apply for a South Australian Seniors Card.

The Seniors Card Program is operated by Office for Ageing Well, which works to fulfil the State Government's commitment to support South Australians to age well.

Having nearly 24,000 South Australians sign up for this program in a short space of time shows how important it is to save any dollar you can.

This is money that stays in the pockets of older South Australians, at time when the cost of living continues to grow.

Beating our arch rivals in Victoria is an added bonus.

South Australian Seniors Card members are also recording higher fuel volumes than Victorian and New South Wales Seniors Card members.

It's great to see our seniors making the most of the Seniors Card benefits to get out and about and be active in the community.

We are absolutely thrilled with the results of the SA Seniors/United fuel discount card. United is 100 per cent behind helping Seniors save at the bowser. Our already low fuel prices together with this discount helps provide further relief to the cost of living.

It is important that SA Seniors remember to register for a digital or plastic fuel discount card, as we are still experiencing SA Seniors trying to present their SA Seniors card to receive the discount instead of the SA Seniors/United fuel discount card.

As put by Office for Ageing Well, Executive Director, Kirsty Delguste

This new fuel card provides a welcome discount for seniors at the bowser but is just one of a wealth of offers available through the 2024 Discounts & Deals Directory.

The Directory is available online or in a hardcopy and allows Seniors Card members to access a wide range of savings, connect with their community and take part in new activities.

We encourage businesses across South Australia that want to grow their customer-base to connect with Seniors Card, so they can tap in and benefit from over 415,000 loyal and active consumers, who love to live life to the fullest.
