Safer Communities: Consultation Continues for Darwin Rehabilitation Precinct

The Territory Labor Government has lodged applications to rezone and subdivide the proposed site of the new Darwin Rehabilitation Precinct in Pinelands.

Public comment is being invited and Territorians will have 28 days to provide their feedback.

The proposed precinct will incorporate the new Darwin Youth Justice Centre (and see Don Dale shut down), an Alcohol and Rehabilitation Centre and light industrial area.

Additional space has been allowed to buffer the development, which will be a secure, fit-for-purpose precinct focused on putting at-risk young people back on the right path.

The Territory Labor Government is investing a historic $229.6 million over the next five years to continue the overhaul of the child protection and youth justice systems, and implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the NT.

Submissions close Friday 14 December and the Territorians can visit www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/planning f
