The annual South Australia Living Artist Festival (SALA) is set to again transform the Adelaide CBD and North Adelaide into virtual art galleries.
Over 100 artists will exhibit ceramics, paintings, jewellery, sculpture and digital art in a range of spaces across the city throughout August.
Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith said SALA highlights the diversity of artistic expression in South Australia while strengthening Adelaide's cultural identity.
"SALA transforms Adelaide into a living gallery each year, with art spilling into streets, cafes, libraries and unexpected corners," said the Lord Mayor.
"The festival brings together people from all walks of life to experience the creativity and talent that thrives in the community."
The City of Adelaide will present a series of SALA events, including cutting fruits, an exhibition at the City Library curated by Alyssa Powell-Ascura, a Filipino-born artist and the appointed City Library Emerging Curator for 2025.
The exhibition will explore the intersection between love, identity and culture through work by Powell-Ascura and nine invited artists from diverse cultural backgrounds.
As the recipient of the City of Adelaide 2024 SALA Award for her exhibition Halo-halo, Powell-Ascura will also host A Seat at the Table at the Minor Works Building on 9 August, where she will serve a Filipino brunch and share insights from her international residency, which led to her solo exhibition.
Other events include the annual City of Adelaide SALA Award, which recognises artwork connected to Adelaide. This year's finalists are artists Gavin Wanganeen, Cynthia Schwerstik, Mia Fan, Karl Meyer and Marlize de Klerk.
Hutt Street Library will host an exhibition of oil paintings by Annalisa Agresta, A Symphony of Blooms, capturing the beauty and serenity of flowers. The Minor Works Building will explore movement, energy and expression through the brush strokes of Guiyong Zhu in Energy in Motion.
Individually designed postcards by Louise Flaherty highlighting North Adelaide's atmosphere, landmarks and community spirit will be on display at the North Adelaide Library and Community Centre. At the Adelaide Town Hall, large new paintings created by musician Zaachariaha Fielding and senior APY Studio artists are on display in Purkarari: Slow Down.
Along with hosting various exhibitions and displays, the City of Adelaide has subsidised registration fees for artists exhibiting within the city area and North Adelaide to support our creative community.
