Hawkesbury City Council will begin the process of selling 19 properties belonging to owners who have amassed significant unpaid rate debts over more than five years.
The on-time payment of rates is essential to ensure Council can deliver on its agreed schedule of works and services every year.
Council is empowered to sell land to recoup unpaid rates under Division 5 of the Local Government Act (1993). This is the final step in the debt recovery process and every attempt has been made to contact the land owners regarding the outstanding debts.
