The Toowoomba community can look forward to an exciting new era in disability services, with local provider Aruma to expand its role.
Aruma (formerly House with No Steps and The Tipping Foundation) will take over operational management of The Salvation Army's Individual Lifestyle Support Service (SAILSS) Darling Downs disability program from the 14th of October this year.
The Salvation Army's Major Evonne Packer says the change of provider to a specialised organisation will lead to improved and expanded disability services in the area.
"Aruma is a like-minded organisation, with an existing presence in the area, and believes in being respectful and authentic. They have a long standing history of delivering disability services, particularly across Australia's eastern seaboard and have strong links to the communities in which they operate," Major Packer said.
"It was important for us to find an organisation that continues to put residents and participants first."
Aruma Queensland General Manager, John Jensen, said the organisation is thrilled to be taking on services from The Salvation Army.
"We are committed to ensuring people with disability are given the respect and opportunities they deserve. We feel very privileged to have been chosen by The Salvation Army to take on their services," Mr Jensen said.
"We will work closely with all of the people involved in this transfer; people with disability, families, carers and staff. Our priority is to ensure continuity of service and a smooth transition."
Aruma will also take over operational management of The Salvation Army's disability program at Bracken Ridge in Brisbane.
Major Parker underlined that The Salvation Army will continue to be a strong local presence, offering chaplaincy, spiritual support, social and church-based activities to the Toowoomba and Brisbane communities.
