Bega Valley Shire Library has two Save Power Kits for loan to library members, to help reduce power bills, make homes more energy efficient and reduce energy impact on the environment.
The kits, a NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment initiative, include several simple devices and worksheets to guide you through some easy steps to identify where the most power is used in your home, where efficiency could be improved and where cost savings can be made.
The devices are:
- an energy meter for measuring an appliance's power use
- a stopwatch to calculate water used when showering
- a thermometer to check fridge and freezer temperatures
- an infra-red thermometer to identify any hot/cold spots in your home
- a light meter to measure the strength of light used (versus needed) within your home.
Library Officer Sarah Morrison said the Save Power Kits support Council's Climate Resilience Strategy (2050).
"Reducing the cost of household energy and emissions are important performance targets in moving our community towards greater energy security," Ms Morrison said.
"In keeping with the climate resilience actions identified in the strategy, this is a great opportunity for community members to improve energy efficiency and reduce power costs."
