Shellharbour City Council is encouraging residents to take a stand against domestic violence by participating in the annual Illawarra White Ribbon Day Walk on Friday 22 November.
The walk is held by the Illawarra Committee Against Domestic Violence (ICADV), a group that aims to be community leaders in promoting the cultural change required to create an Illawarra free from domestic and family violence.
The walk will take place at 7 am (6.50 am arrival) at the North Wollongong Surf Club and will be followed by a free breakfast.
There will also be speakers on the day to discuss this year's theme of 'SEE something, SAY something, DO something.'
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba urged the Shellharbour community to say 'no' to domestic violence by joining the walk.
"This year Shellharbour City Council received a White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation that recognised our commitment to stopping men's violence against women," she said.
"Even though White Ribbon Australia's journey has sadly ended, stopping domestic and family violence will remain a priority for Council. We will continue to work towards building a community where everyone feels safe in public, at work and at home," Cr Saliba said.
