Territory screen industry champion, Andrew Hyde, has been announced as the successful recipient of the 2018 Bob Plasto Screen Award at the Darwin International Film Festival. The award honours the achievements of a Territorian who has made an outstanding contribution to the NT screen industry.
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss today congratulated Andrew Hyde on his success, which includes a $10,000 grant as part of the award to continue his significant work within the Territorys screen industry.
Andrew has a long and illustrious track record of contribution to the development of the NT screen industry, with proven success having produced and directed work for national broadcast, including the six-part series The Love Shack on the Seven Network.
He is the Assistant Secretary and National Board Member of the Australian Cinematographers Society, and has held the position of President of the Australian Cinematographers Society NT Branch since 2012.
This year, the Darwin International Film Festival will be showcasing an exciting program featuring some of the best films from the Northern Territory, Australia and the world.
Opening the festival is the Island of the Hungry Ghosts which shines a light on the plight of asylum seekers on one of Australias most unique locations Christmas Island.
The film recently won the 2018 Best Documentary Award at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York and is produced by Alice Springs-based filmmaker, Alex Kelly. Alex is an accomplished, award-winning filmmaker and former Bob Plasto Screen Award recipient.
This years festival features multiple award-winning feature films with three Australian premieres and 18 NT Premieres.
